Orbital Welding
Orbital Welding is a clean and efficient way to join tubes, pipes, flanges, elbows, reducers, tees, plate to tube and more as part of complex assemblies.
It is cost efficient and the end result is superior than any other process.
Orbital Welding is a specialized welding in which the arc is rotated mechanically through 360° around a static work piece in a continuous process.
Orbital Welding is suitable for high purity product lines where contamination is caused of concern or large pipe lines.
The Orbital Welding process improves quality and productivity and is used in many applications where manual welding would not be feasible or cost efficient:
- Whether your project requires a closed head TIG (Autogenous GTAW), orbital welding system used in high purity tube.
- Or open head TIG (wire fed GTAW), automatic orbital welding systems used on pipe with a material thickness greater than 3mm.

We regularly provide Orbital Welding Services for the Biopharmaceutical, Food, Brewing/Distilling and Specialty Chemical Industries.
Process piping projects that require highly repeatable, x-ray quality welds with superior root and cap aesthetics demand orbital welding systems.
There are many welding process combination available with this type of welding. On large diameter pipes with thick material sections a typical set up would involve a TIG (GTAW) root and wire fed hot pass with a flux core (FCAW) fill and cap. Some times referred to as a bug setup and is used in long straight pipe runs.
Southern Steel Engineering has the capability to provide clients with a orbital welding solutions that will produce exceptional results. We have 20 plus years in precision welding solutions.
